Blackwood Cardigan, Tuesdays, August 28 & September 4, 6 - 9 pm
Description: The Blackwood Cardigan is a cozy and versatile addition to your wardrobe. Designed with layering in mind, it has minimal excess fabric in the front and a close fit around the neck and shoulders. Its fitted shape and extra long sleeves make it perfect for wearing under jackets and vests, while also looking stylish over tank tops and dresses. View B ends at the hips, while View A extends down to the mid-thigh and includes patch pockets at hand level. The Blackwood is intended to be worn open and is not designed to close at the front. In this class you’ll learn how to work with knit fabric, how to fit a pattern to your body, and how to use a serger to create seams.

PATTERN PURCHASING AND PRINTING. PLEASE READ: This PDF pattern can be purchased at https://helenscloset.ca/product/blackwood-cardigan-pdf-pattern/. We recommend having the copy shop file printed at Kinkos or a similar place on a large-format printer. It is a good idea to call ahead and make sure the copy shop can handle large-format printing. If you choose to print the tiled version at home, make sure to print at 100% and check the test square on the first page of the tiled version to ensure the pattern prints at the intended size. It is not possible to print the pattern at Modern Domestic, so it is imperative that you complete this step prior to coming to class. Just bring your printed pattern -- we will trace and cut fabric together in class. Note that class time does not allow for you taping your tiled pattern together in class. Please complete this step prior to arrival.
All supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic.
Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small. If you plan to shop for supplies the day of your class we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early.
What’s a Beginner-level class at Modern Domestic?
You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
