Esme Maxi Cardigan, Mondays, April 10, 17, 24, 6-8:30 pm
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner, ages 18 and up
Esme is a straight-cut, oversized and loose-fitting cardigan with dropped shoulders and cuffed sleeves that falls below the knee. This pattern is an excellent knit fabric skill-builder. You’ll take your knit sewing to the next level while learning how to create in-seam pockets and how to install buttonholes and buttons on knits. You’ll gain experience creating pockets and buttonholes on a sewing machine, using a serger to finish seams and using a coverstitch machine to hem.
• Pattern required: Named Patterns Esme Maxi Cardigan
• Fabric required for size desired, prewashed. Recommend medium or heavy knit with low or medium stretch.
• Two serger thread cones
• Swedish tracing paper
• 1 spool all-purpose thread (recommend Mettler Metrosene)
• 5 buttons (approx 1” diameter)
• 2 yards fusible knit interfacing (recommend Pellon Easy Knit)

What is an “Advanced Beginner” Class at Modern Domestic?
You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
