Morris Blazer, Saturdays, October 7 and 14, 3:30-6:30 pm
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner, ages 18 and up.
The Morris Blazer is the perfect mix of casual and cool. It will quickly become the go-to garment to complete any outfit. With a mixture of drape and structure, bracelet length sleeves, and gentle shawl collar, it looks great dressed up or down. It works up well in fabrics with stretch, making it comfortable on top of everything else! You'll learn how to set in sleeves, sew a shawl collar, and how to work with stretch fabric with great results.
• Morris Blazer pattern by Grainline Studio.
• Swedish Tracing Paper
• Fabric in yardage required for size desired, pre washed. Recommend medium weight woven fabrics with a bit of stretch or medium weight stable knits. Various stretch wool suitings, stretch cottons, Ponté knit, and French terry are all suitable, though the drape on each may be slightly different.
• 1 1/8 yard knit fusible interfacing
• One spool of all-purpose thread
• Wash Away Wonder Tape
• *4 Maxilock serger thread cones *OPTIONAL - Please see note below.
*Note: we will be constructing the blazer on the BERNINA sewing machines, and using the BERNINA classroom sergers to finish seams. We will have the sergers set up with neutral thread colors. Because this blazer is unlined, the serger thread will show on the inside of the jacket. If you want a specific color thread for your project, please bring four cones of Maxilock thread in your desired color.
BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS: Please come to your first class with your pattern pieces traced. If you need help figuring out what size or sizes to trace, or how to grade between sizes, email firstname.lastname@example.org about connecting prior to class to get your questions answered. We will check your measurements in class and adjust your traced pieces if needed. Please bring your original pattern and tracing paper to the first session in case we need to make adjustments to your traced pieces. Once we have looked over your traced pieces we will cut fabric together during class.
All supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. If you plan to shop for supplies the day of your class we recommend arriving at least 45 minutes early.
What is an “Advanced Beginner” class at Modern Domestic?
You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
