Pick Your Pattern: T-Shirts, Mondays, April 9 & 16, 6-9pm
Skill Level: Beginner, ages 18 and up.
If you are new to sewing knits this is a great way to finally make that T-Shirt pattern you’ve had your eye on. You will gain confidence and skills working with knit fabric and learn how to adjust a pattern to fit your body measurements. You’ll learn how to make professional looking seams on a serger and hem on a coverstitch machine.
• Pick your pattern: Choose from the Lark Tee by Grainline Studio, Jalie Men’s T-Shirt 2918, Jalie Women’s T-Shirt 2805, or Concord Tee by Cashmerette. If you have a different pattern in mind, email the instructor in advance of class for approval: email@example.com
• Jersey knit fabric in yardage required for size and sleeve-length desired, prewashed.
• Swedish Tracing Paper
• Two coordinating cones of Maxi Lock serger thread
- If you are making the T-Shirt for someone else you will need to come to the first class session with that person's bust/chest, waist, and hip measurements. If you aren’t sure how to properly take measurements, stop in the shop and we will give you a quick tutorial!
Note: You will be using Modern Domestic’s classroom sergers and overstitch machines in this class. If you choose to bring your own machine, please make sure you are familiar with how to use it.
All supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic.
Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small. If you plan to shop for supplies the day of your class we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early.
What is a “Beginner” class at Modern Domestic?
You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
