Toaster Sweater, Wednesdays, April 4 & 11, 6-9pm
Skill Level: Beginner, ages 18 and up
Description: The Toaster Sweater is a high neck top designed to keep you toasty warm and stylish in the cooler months. This is a closer fitting, semi-cropped top and works best when sewn in thick, stiff knits wth some body to keep the neck standing upright. It features raglan sleeves, a wide waistband, a loose turtleneck, long cuffs and falls between the high and low hip. You’ll learn how to work with knit fabric, how to make pattern adjustments to fit your body measurements, and how to construct a garment entirely on a serger.
• Sew House Seven Toaster Sweater Pattern
• Medium- to Heavy-weight knits with 20% stretch across the grain in yardage required for size desired, pre-washed. Recommend French Terry, Sweatshirt Fleece (make sure it has 20% stretch!), Sweater knits, etc.
• Two coordinating Serger Thread Cones
• Swedish Tracing Paper
All supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic.
Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small. If you plan to shop for supplies the day of your class we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early.
What is a “Beginner” level class at Modern Domestic?
You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
