The Gentleman's Capsule Series is a range of menswear classes for the beginner, intermediate, or advanced sewist. From underwear to outerwear, learn traditional tailoring techniques to create a capsule wardrobe. Classes are offered individually but all are derived from The Gentleman's Wardrobe book by Vanessa Mooncie. Take them all and fill out your men's clothing skills.
The Gentlemen's Wardrobe Waistcoat or Vest is a fitted vest with traditional charm and potential individualization with fabric choice. Learn to shape narrow darts and make welt pockets.

Fabric required for size desired, pre-washed (Cotton, canvas, linen). If you choose a wool, tweed or suiting fabric, do NOT prewash. Purchase extra to match plaids and stripes. Garment Sizes are listed on page 146

Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. If you plan to shop for supplies the day of your class we recommend arriving at least 45 minutes early.
What is an “Advanced Beginner” class at Modern Domestic?
You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
