Beginner Workshop: Make a Checkerboard, Saturday & Sunday, December 9th & 10th, 1pm-3:30pm
Instructor: Courtney Zerizef
Skill Level: Beginner*, ages 15 and up
Class Length: 2 sessions, 2.5 hrs each
It's the perfect, handmade, "quick-make" Christmas gift for the checkers or chess player in your life. This course will go through all the steps to create a beautiful floor, quilted checkerboard, including cute, felted checker pieces.
In this course, you'll learn:
1 - the difference in pressing seams open or to the side -- this is a hot button topic in the quilting world, and you'll learn when is best to use which method as both have advantages and disadvantages!
2 - how to create a checker pattern (also popular in other quilting patterns, or great to use with scraps).
3 - adding a border to a pattern (optional).
4 - using a walking foot and selecting a quilting pattern.
By the end of the weekend, you'll walk away with a finished quilt top, as time allows, we'll proceed through the quilt sandwich process, and may have time to begin the binding process. Quilt completion will likely be done after class.

*Skill Level: Beginner - You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
