Button up shirts are one of the most timeless garments, and mastering their construction is an incredible skill to have in your sewing know-how! This Lab will cover shirt construction, focusing on flawless collars and cuffs, along with some fitting alterations and basic serger skills to allow you to create the shirt of your dreams.

Supply List:

- Shirt Pattern (Rachel recommends: Kalle, Olya, Ilford, Fairfield, Phen, Archer)

- Swedish Tracing Paper

- Fabric required for desired pattern.

- 2 spools of thread, Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread,  1 in color to match fabric and 1 to match buttons

- Buttons

- Shape Flex Interfacing

*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.

Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. To purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

*Skill Levels: Intermediate - You’re no longer intimidated by the idea of reading a pattern and comfortable reading a pattern and have made a number of projects. You would like to learn different methods of zipper installation or how to alter your patterns. You’re venturing into more complicated patterns (e.g., lined garments, plackets, collars, zippered fly). Classes are faster paced and generally require homework.

Modern Domestic Labs: You're interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor's guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab's topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
