Hudson Pant, Alberta St Store, Wednesdays, December 4, 11, & 18, 6-8:30pm
The Hudson pattern is a modern take on the classic sweatpants. It has front pockets, an elastic waist, drawstring, and cuffs at the bottom. The urban fit of these pants leaves a bit of extra room around the hips and then tapers into a skinny leg. In this class you will gain confidence and skills working with knit fabric and learn how to adjust a pattern to fit your body measurements. You’ll learn how to make professional looking seams on a serger and how to successfully work with knits on a sewing machine.
- Hudson Pants pattern by True Bias
- Fabric required for size and View desired, pre-washed. Recommend medium-weight knits such as cotton lycra, french terry, ponte, lightweight scuba, and sweatshirt knit with a suggested stretch of approximately 25%.
- Swedish tracing paper
- One spool coordinating all-purpose thread (recommend Mettler Metrosene)
- 1 1/2 yards 2” wide elastic
- 2 yards 1/4” wide cording
Note: You will be using Modern Domestic’s classroom sergers in this class. If you choose to bring your own machine, please make sure you are familiar with how to use it.

What is a “Beginner” class at Modern Domestic?
You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
