CLASS FULL IN-PERSON Elodie Dress, Alberta St. Store, Thursdays, July 21, 28, & August 4, 5-8pm
Level: Advanced Beginner
Ages 15 and Up
Elodie is a modern take on a classic wrap dress. Romantic and flowy with multiple skirt and sleeve options, it’s equally appropriate at a park picnic or a special wedding.
Elodie features a softly flowing bodice, with release pleats under the bust and a dolman style sleeve. Choose between a short sleeve or a longer, more formal option that ends at the elbow. The skirt is swishy and voluminous and comes in three lengths, above the knee, midi or maxi, with optional patch pockets.
This class will cover basic garment construction for all views, as well as fun finishing techniques like serging and French seams.
- Supply List:
- Pattern Required: Elodie Dress by Closet Core Patterns
- Swedish Tracing Paper
- Fabric required for size and length desired, pre-washed. Elodie can be made in a wide variety of fabrics. Light to medium weight wovens like linen, cotton poplin, batiste, voile and chambray will have a more casual feel. Choose a drapey woven like silk, viscose, tencel or rayon challis for a more elegant or fluid effect. For beginners we highly recommend a more stable woven like cotton lawn.
- 3/4 yard Lightweight Fusible Interfacing
- 1 spool small Mettler Metrosene all-purpose polyester thread in color to match exterior fabric
Please purchase supplies in advance of your class. Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
What is an Advanced Beginner Level Class at Modern Domestic?
You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
