Modern Scrap Color Value Quilt/Pillow, Lake Oswego Store, Saturday, April 18, 2-5pm
Skill Level:Advanced Beginner, Ages 15 and up
Got lots of fabrics in your stash, and want some new inspiration to use them? The quilt "value" from Blair's book, Wise Craft Quilts, is made using the power of color value in the fabrics you pick. Blair will show you how to determine the lightness and darkness of your chosen fabrics using her Ruby Ruler. From there, we learn to stop the process of "overthinking" our design, and watch the magic happen as we sew up and lay out half square triangle units made of dark and light-valued fabrics.
- Bring 5”x5” squares of at least 30 different printed quilting cottons. Blair recommends coming to class with these precut if possible to save yourself lots of time. Don’t worry about color values in what you bring, just bring as many different fabrics as you can.

What is an “Advanced Beginner” class at Modern Domestic?
You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
