To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm. If purchasing materials online, purchase supplies at least two days in advance to allow for prepping. All class supplies purchased at Modern Domestic get a 10% discount - please inquire for the code.
Supply List:
- Woven Fabric (medium weight canvas recommended for outer, lighter weight fabric suggested for lining) Fabric examples: Canvas, sunbrella, checkmate checkers)
- 1/2yd for outer fabric, 1/2 for Lining. 1yd total if outer and lining fabric are the same
- One spool of coordinating Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread
- 1/4 yard of fusible Interfacing (optional, for reinforcing/making a stiffer brim)
*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
*Skill Level: Beginner- You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
