Level up your garment sewing by making a pair overalls or a jumpsuit! Learn fitting and pattern adjustments, such as lengthening/shortening as well as construction techniques like: topstitching, inserting buttonholes, zippers, and adding on jeans buttons.
This class is designed for mixed level sewists, so let your sewing level guide your pattern choice. Homework may be required to complete your garment within the class sessions. As with all our Labs, you have the ability to sew at your own pace with the instructor’s help to keep you on track and sewing along.
Each session will include instructor demonstration based on class needs and hands-on learning with a pattern of your choice!
Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm. Class supplies cannot be purchased when our shop is closed.
To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm. If purchasing materials online, please purchase supplies at least two days in advance to allow for prepping. Supply List:
- Suggested Patterns: Advanced Beginner - Avenir Jumpsuit by Friday Pattern, Intermediate Level - Riley Overalls by True Bias, Burnside Bibs by Sew House Seven, Zadie Boiler Suit by Liberty and Jenny Overalls by Closet Core
- Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread
- Fabric & Notions required by your pattern
*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
*Skill Levels: Advanced Beginner & up - You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
Modern Domestic Labs: You're interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor's guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab's topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
