*NO CLASS ON MEMORIAL DAY - MAY 27th*

In this Lab, you will learn the skills needed to make your very own quilted jacket - beginning with making a patchwork quilt square all the way through jacket construction and attaching bias binding. Come at any point in your process! Maybe you have already started and need support with a tricky part of construction? Maybe you are just picking up the pattern for the first time? As with all MD Labs, you’ll have teacher guidance while sewing at your own pace.

Possible topics that will be discussed throughout the Lab are: How to make a Half Square Triangle or Flying Geese quilt block. Making and basting a quilt sandwich. Machine quilting on a domestic sewing machine. Jacket construction including welt pockets. How to attach binding. Bonus Skills: hand-quilting and installing hardware.

Quilting experience is a bonus, and not necessary.

Your supplies may be available for purchase at Modern Domestic! You are welcome to purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. If you plan to shop in-store for supplies the day of your class, we recommend planning about 45 minutes for shopping. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Supply List:

- Suggested Pattern: Grainline Tamarack Jacket Pattern or Megan Nielsen Hovea Jacket Pattern

- Yardage, Batting, and notions required for your corresponding size in pattern of your choice

- Thread, Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread

- Basting Pins

- Wonder Clips, 10pc or 50pc packs available

- Hera Marker

- Optional: Embroidery Needles for hand finishing binding

*Skill Levels: Advanced Beginner - You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.

Modern Domestic Labs: You're interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor's guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab's topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
