Do you have a pile of beloved garments with holes, tears, missing buttons, or other small flaws? Learn to use visible mending as a way to repair and redesign by embellishing, illuminating, or adding value. Bring your own garment ready for patching, or practice techniques on scraps in person. Hand and machine sewing techniques will be used - learn to use the darning foot on the sewing machine, or practice the running stitch in a variety of patterns by hand!

Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. To purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Supply List:

- 1/4 yard of fabric (for visible patching)

- 1/4 yard of Interfacing or denim/twill Iron on Patches

- One Spool of Small Mettler Metrosene Thread

- Embroidery Floss

- Hand Sewing Needles - large eye or multi-sized

- Embroidery Hoop - hoop size dependent on project

- Thimble (optional, but recommended)

*Skill Levels: Beginner - You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.

Modern Domestic Labs: You're interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor's guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab's topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
