Remember that quilt you started years ago and never finished? Let’s learn techniques to turn that quilt top into a proper cozy quilt! This lab will focus on teaching different binding techniques so that you’ll find the method that is just right for you. You’ll learn how to select the right batting, methods for hand or machine quilting, and all about binding. You’ll come away from the lab with the confidence to finish quilts on your own.
Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. To purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm
Supply List:
- Any quilt top or unfinished quilt (Recommended: twin size quilt or smaller)
- Fabric for binding*
- Fabric for backing*
- Batting*

*These materials can be selected in the first lab session with consultation from the instructor if desired.
Modern Domestic Labs: You're interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor's guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab's topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
*Skill Levels: Beginner and up - You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
