CLASS IN SESSION! Garment Lab: Advanced Beginner Garment Sewing, Tuesdays, November 12th, 19th, 26th, & December 3rd, 6pm-8:30pm
Instructor: Colleen Connolly
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and up*, ages 15 and up
Class Length: 4 sessions, 2.5 hours each session
Are you ready to level up your garment sewing skills? In this Lab, you will learn more advanced techniques for sewing garments from a pattern of your choice. Think darts, cuffs, collars, button plackets, and more. This lab is perfect for the advanced beginner and intermediate sewist that wants to grow their skill set in sewing garments. There will be a mix of technique demonstration with the whole group and open sewing at your own pace. Bring your project at any point in your process and use this time to sew one or many projects, and ask tons of questions!
Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. To purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
Supply List:
- Pattern (This is based on your preference! Some ideas - Grainline Studios Austin Dress, Closet Core Patterns Kalle Shirt and Shirtdress, Pattern Fantastique Mersis Dress And Top Pattern, Merchant & Mills Quinn Pants Pattern … )
- Fabric* (noted on your pattern)
- Thread - Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread
- All Other Notions (noted on your pattern)
*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
Modern Domestic Labs: You're interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor's guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab's topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
Advanced Beginner and up - You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
