Take a common quilt block and learn how much you can do with it! This quilt uses the log cabin block as the base of the design, one of the most well-known blocks in the quilting world. This modern spin-off makes a wonderful starry kaleidoscope effect when the block is repeated.
Participants will learn all steps for creating a quilt, from measuring and cutting fabric, sewing perfect squares, getting your points to match, and finishing your quilt. Leave this class with a finished quilt in a size of your choosing. As a slightly more advanced pattern, some basic experience or knowledge of quilting will be helpful, though not required.
Please Note: Larger the quilt sizes require homework, and you are welcome to use our Open Sew option to complete homework at the shop.
Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. To purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
Supply List:
- Sky Cabin Quilt Pattern by Toad and Sew
- Fabric for quilt top (See pattern to determine quantities, the Instructor recommends choosing backing, binding, and batting after the first class)
- 1 spool of Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread, white, off white or neutral is recommended
*Skill Level: Advanced Beginner - You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.
