Are you new to sewing clothing and need support with the basics? Take this Lab and get all your questions answered from the beginning of sewing your garment to the finish!

In this Lab, you will learn the ins and outs of sewing garments from a pattern in the open sewing format. Bring your project at any point in your process. As you get started sewing, you’ll have support to thread and sew on our classroom BERNINAs, and learn tips and tricks to make your garment look professional.

Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. To purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Supply List:

- Beginner Garment Pattern for Woven Fabrics of your choice (a few examples Grainline Uniform Tunic, Friday Square Neck Top, 100 Acts of Sewing Pants No. 1)

- Woven Fabric (noted on your pattern)

- Thread - Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread

- All Other Notions (noted on your pattern)

*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.

*Skill Level:  Beginner - You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
