Get your questions about sewing with knits & stretchy fabrics answered! You will learn the ins and outs of sewing knit garments from a pattern. Use our classroom sewing machine and learn how to use our BERNINA classroom sergers. Bring your project at any point in your process. As you get started sewing, you’ll have support to thread and sew on our classroom BERNINAs, learn about the right needles to use and the specialty stretch fabric stitches!

Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. To purchase supplies online and pick up the day of your class, just select NE Alberta Store for pick-up. To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Supply List:

- Your Knit Garment Pattern (Lori recommends: The Lark Tee, The Sew House Seven Skyline Tee, and The True Bias Hudson Pant

- Light to Mid-weight Knit Fabric  (Choose a stretch percentage that matches your pattern. Jersey is a great option.)

- Swedish Tracing paper

- Coordinating Spool of Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread

- Ballpoint/Jersey Needle

- Optional for Serger: 4 spools of coordinating Maxi-Lock Serger Thread

- All other notions noted in your pattern

*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.

*Skill Levels: Advanced Beginner - You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, sewing with a serger, etc.). Classes generally require homework.

Modern Domestic Labs: You're interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor's guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab's topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
