Are you new to sewing with knits and need support with the basics? In this class, you will learn the ins and outs of sewing knit garments, machine stitches used for stretch fabrics, and how to use a serger.
You’ll learn how to take body measurements, draft a pattern, cut, and construct your own Breton Boatneck T-shirt--featuring a subtle boat neck, a relaxed dropped shoulder, and an easy fit. The Breton, sometimes also called la marinière, is French in heritage and is a classic striped top perfect for the summer.

- 1 3/4- 2yds Striped Knit Fabric*
- Stretch Twin Needle- 4.0 size
- 1 spool of Mettler Metrosene All-Purpose Polyester Thread (fabric matching is recommended)
- 4 Maxi-lock Serger Cones (fabric matching is recommended)

*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
*Skill Level: Advanced Beginner - You have a good handle on the basics and are ready to dip your toe into more challenging waters. You’re still fairly new to sewing from patterns and could use help with how to manipulate the pattern to get a better fit. You want to add some new skills to your repertoire (invisible zippers, setting-in sleeves, etc.) and want to have an option to use a serger for finishing techniques. Classes generally require homework.
*Skill Level: Beginner Serger - Classes teach a specific skill or type of stitch on a serger. This skill level is for people who have used a sewing machine before and are getting comfortable with the basics, but are new to using a serger! You may have never used a serger, only used a serger once/twice, or it has been years since you have.
