Students will learn the ins and outs of sewing menswear/unisex garments from a pattern in the open sewing format. The first session focuses on fitting, measuring body dimensions, choosing pattern size, pattern tracing, and fabric cutting. The next sessions are open format sewing with support. During each session, you'll receive one-on-one and small group instructional support, based on you and your classmates' needs.
Homework may be required to finish your garment within the three sessions, depending on your sewing speed and garment difficulty. As always, you’ll have complimentary access to the classroom, outside of class time during our Open Sew hours.
Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm. Class supplies cannot be purchased when our shop is closed.

*Make sure to pre-wash your fabric in advance of class. This prevents possible fabric shrinkage that could otherwise make your finished garment too small.
*Skill Levels: Beginner & up - You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.
Modern Domestic Labs: You're interested in sewing in a group setting and prefer to have an instructor's guidance on specific techniques and/or skills that are proposed in the Lab's topic. You have the ability to sew at your own pace, the expert help to keep you on track and sewing along, and a variety of options (sometimes endless!) when it comes to choosing the project you want to sew.
