Set a lovely table for the holidays. Learn to sew quilted placemats! This project is perfect for beginners, or anyone who hasn’t tried quilting and wants to start with a small, easy, approachable project. In this class, you'll learn how to thread and sew on our Bernina machines, cut, piece, and quilt fabric, and how to miter corners! This is a perfect class to learn the sewing basics needed to complete a beginner sewing project.

Be prepared - purchase your supplies online or in person before your class begins! Class supplies are available for purchase at Modern Domestic. Please note that our store hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm & Sunday, 11am-4pm. Class supplies cannot be purchased when our shop is closed. 

To purchase supplies in store, we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes to shop. If purchasing materials online, purchase supplies at least two days in advance to allow for prepping. All class supplies purchased at Modern Domestic get a 10% discount - please inquire for the code. 

Supply List: (for 4 placemats)

- Woven Quilting Fabric

-Center piece – 1/2" yard of woven quilting fabric

- 1st border – 3/8" yard of woven quilting fabric

- 2nd border – 3/8" yard of woven quilting fabric

- Backing fabric – 1 yard of woven quilting fabric

- Batting – 1 yard

- 1 matching spool of small mettler metrosene thread

Skill Level: Beginner- You’ve taken a class or two and are starting to get comfortable with the basics. You know what a seam allowance is, you’ve sewn a little on your own, but you still need a little help with remembering how to thread the machine and wind a bobbin. These classes usually have little if any homework to complete outside of class time. The prerequisite for any Beginner class is a Sew Basics class, Learn to Sew class, or equivalent. This skill level is not for people who have never used a sewing machine before.

Class Cancellation Policy: A cancellation more than 72 hours before a class start date receives a full refund or credit. A cancellation within 72 hours is non-refundable. No-shows forfeit any refund or exchange. We hold this class cancellation policy to ensure our teachers are compensated for their time, and other students waiting for spots in full classes are not missing class opportunities due to late cancellations.  Thank you for your understanding.
